Writing and illustrating a children's book was never going to be easy, but it sure was fun.
Penelope Blue and her friends began as sketches that are a far cry from the characters that made the final cut; dreaming up a style and executing that vision took many attempts.
Creating recognizable characters and making sure they could be drawn from all angles was a long process and the characters evolved naturally.
Even when the drawings were complete, edited, and ready for the publishers there were still changes happening: being able to decide something is finished is perhaps the hardest part of the process.
The book was to be printed in New Zealand, this also meant an opportunity to be involved in the process and watch the books being printed, a technical process on an eight colour printer larger than most rooms.
'Penelope Blue' was always meant to do good things and so it was decided sales of the book would raise money for the Special Olympics and support the great things they do.
